Selby C. Martin founded the Selby Martin Agency in 1961, after having spent 20 years with the Kennedy Insurance Agency in Muncie Indiana. In 1963, Don Stelzer was employed as a producer and in 1967 Darwin Keyton joined as both Office Manager and Producer. Both Don and Darwin became stockholders after only a few years.  A life department was added with the hiring of Ron Martin in 1972. Ron was a life producer for a few years and then became a stockholder. Eddie Slaven joined the Agency in 1998 as a producer.  Don Stelzer retired in December of 1999 after 36 years of service.  Eddie then became a stockholder in 2003.  Today, Darwin Keyton is the President/Treasurer, Eddie Slaven is the Vice President/Secretary and Ron Martin is the CEO.

 In 1979 the agency was the recipient of the William C. Myers Award for “Outstanding Independent Agency in Indiana” presented by the Independent Agents of Indiana.

Selby Martin Insurance has acquired over 15 other agencies, the largest being the Harry Wolf Agency in 1985, and the Mutual Federal Savings Bank Agency in 1986. Over the years, the agency has outgrown three different locations and moved to their current location in 1992.  The agency currently employs 17 individuals and primarily serves East Central Indiana, but has clients throughout Indiana and several other states.
